Hello everyone and welcome to the Desautels Accounting Society. My name is Alexis Wartabetian, I’m entering my third year here at Desautels majoring in accounting with a concentration in Strategic Management. Born in France and raised in Montreal, my journey at McGill started in utter confusion (like for many of you). I didn’t really know what to expect out of my first year at McGill. While it is very normal to feel anxious about your future and about the multitude of career opportunities that are presented at Desautels, there are various resources for students to narrow down their decision as to which career path they are willing to follow, and DAS is one of those resources. You will often hear (as it is our mission statement) that our goal is to bridge the students majoring in accounting with public and private firms. Our sole purpose is for you (the students) to get accustomed to the people who have already made it into the industry, as well as the intricate work they had to put in to get to the position they hold today. While you might not be sure what you want your future profession to be, attending events (not only for the accounting society but for other clubs as well) is the best way for you to get accustomed to your preferences and dislikes. Is University hard? Absolutely, you are one of the select few who made it to one of the top business schools in North America, but gaining hands on experience about how job industries work and how to handle recruitment, interviews, and info sessions is part of the growing pains every student has gone through and will go through after you. At DAS, our job is to put your mind at ease, and to help you with all of the above.

As professionals, we provide value added expertise to a world of complex financial and strategic dilemmas. I am excited to be part of DAS’ best year yet! I hope you are ready for what we have in store. From case competitions to recruitment events, and interview prep to cocktails, it is our mission to introduce you to the CPA profession and a career of amazing opportunities! As your VP Corporate Relations, I will be the primary liaison with the CPA Order, international, nation-wide, local firms, and their representatives. I love talking about anything and everything, so should you have any questions or wish to go grab a bite, please feel to reach out and remember: “You learn a lot about someone when you share a meal together.” – Anthony Bourdain.

Hi, this is Jimmy. I am entering my last year at McGill with an Accounting major and an International Business concentration. I am originally from Taiwan and came to Canada for school when I was 16. I discovered my interest in Accounting during my second-year summer internship as an Accountant Assistant at a technology company that was undergoing an IPO. Accounting classes and professors also confirmed my accounting path. With the help of all the information in this handbook and approachable DAS executives, I successfully landed a summer internship at Big 4. DAS is here to help with anything regarding school, recruitment, life etc.

Hey everyone! Accounting was not always my first choice, however, throughout CEGEP and University, I was able to discover my passion for numbers. During my first year, I made it a point to step out of my comfort zone by attending DAS events and actively promoting my capabilities. Having been introduced to various accounting professionals, I developed useful networking skills and befriended several members of the DAS team. For the upcoming school year, I will be one of your VP Projects, coordinating fun cocktail events and seminars. I consider it a great honor to be able to help our fellow students acquire an understanding of accounting whilst guiding them through the recruitment process.
